Mentioning the word "Microsoft" in a room full of software professionals is roughly akin to saying "gun control" in a room full of politicians: it's virtually guaranteed to provoke expressions of strong opinion, if not loud debate. Even the narrower topic of "why Microsoft succeeds at what it does" will generate an argument.
