The need for communication and information exchange led to the first attempts to connect computers over a network. Later the network of networks, the Internet, brought more attractive elements of communication: fonts, color, pictures, video, and audio. The first Web sites were related to big organizations -- world-class enterprises and universities -- and functioned something like an advertisement or a storefront.
