Lenore Newman
Lenore Newman is Director of the Food and Agriculture Institute, University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), Canada, where she specializes in agricultural innovation and policy; Associate Professor in UFV’s School of Land Use and Environmental Change; and an emeritus member of the Royal Society of Canada’s New College. She mentors for the Creative Destruction Labs–Rockies agricultural stream and works closely with industry in the areas of alternative proteins and controlled environment agriculture. Dr. Newman is a former member of the British Columbia (BC) Premier’s Food Security Task Force, sat on the BC Minister of Agriculture’s Advisory Committee, and consults widely on the future of food. She has published numerous academic journal articles and book chapters as well as opinion pieces in The Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, The Hill Times, and The Georgia Straight. Dr. Newman is author of Speaking in Cod Tongues and Lost Feast, which was awarded silver in the 2019 Forward INDIES and winner of the Canadian Science Writers Award. She is also coauthor of the forthcoming Dinner on Mars. Dr. Newman earned a master’s degree and a PhD in environmental studies, both from York University, Canada.
