Alejandro Pisanty

Dr. Pisanty has held, among others, the following positions at UNAM: Head of the Postgraduate Studies of the Chemistry School; Coordinator of the Distance Education Program, and Coordinator of the Open University and Distance Education at UNAM. As a Technical Secretary of the Computing Advisory Board, he has been part of UNAM's efforts to increase its computer equipment from 2,500 to nearly 58,0000 computers, extending computer networks with constant renovation politics for an integral planning of computer systems, telecommunication networks, informatics security, and spam combat. He is currently Trustee at Internet Society Mexico; Vice-Chair of the Board at ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers; and is also a member of the Board of the University Corporation for Internet Development. In November 2004, he was designated by Kofi Annan, UN Secretary-General, as a member of the Working Group on Internet Governance, (WGIG), an activity that he has continued since 2006 as a member of the Forum Advisory Group on Internet Governance, where he debates on Internet governance, the defense of rationality, free media, and unrestricted access to information on the Internet.

In 2006, Dr. Pisanty received the Educative Innovations in the Americas Award (INELAM) in the category of Inter American Informatics from the Organization of American States (OAS). In 2007, he was elected member of the Board of Trustees of the Internet Society globally and has been acknowledged by InfoWorld among the "100 Most Important CIOs in Mexico," since he has taken part in several technical and advisory committees in both the public and private sector through the Group DC Mexico and the Consultative Committee of ExpoComm.
