A Successful Leadership Strategy: Continual Self-imposed Disruption
Prof. Erin E. Sullivan takes a deep dive into one organization’s leadership practices to demonstrate how by continually disrupting itself, and being open to change, your organization can foster the ability to quickly adapt to outside disruptors. For more than 20 years, Southcentral Foundation, a primary-care based healthcare system serving Alaska Natives and American Indians in Anchorage Alaska, has transformed itself by being very intentional about continuous improvement and leadership development at every level. From shifting how they think about their customer-owners (formerly called “patients”), to having a high degree of organizational transparency and focusing relentlessly on change inspired by their stakeholders, Southcentral Foundation has built an organization that is responsive, adaptive, and successful. You’ll discover, from both Prof. Sullivan and via videos of the former CEO, the impact of designing a culture that makes it possible to succeed in both good and bad times.
Cutter Senior Consultant Erin E. Sullivan, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Healthcare Management at the Sawyer School of Business at Suffolk University and also holds a position on the faculty of Harvard Medical School’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine/Center for Primary Care.
