What do we need to know to succeed?

How many times have we asked this question of ourselves and our colleagues? After almost 30 years in this business, I can confidently tell you, "It depends."

It depends on where you sit in an organization. It depends on what kind of organization you run. It depends on the state of the business that your technology supports. But it also depends on technology and organizational trends: how many of us saw remote, collaborative teams coming? How many of us anticipated the impact that the Web would have on business-to-business and business-to-consumer commerce? And when did application design and development get so touchy-feely? In this issue of CBR , Cutter Consortium Senior Consultant E.M. Bennatan, for example, suggests that there's an art and a science to software team membership and success. Teams organize themselves and behave in certain ways. Do you work well with others? Are you a good team member? "Teaming" is a skill that we'll all need as we continue our march into the early 21st century.
