Carl Adams

Carl Adams is a Principal Lecturer and Researcher in the School of Computing at the University of Portsmouth. His professional experience spans 12 years of working in the computer industry as a software engineer, system analyst, and consultant before going into academia. Dr. Adams’s research explores the impact of changing technology and wider risks and uncertainty, including ICT4D activity, supporting displaced people with mobile technology and social media, and developing approaches for community-based risk assessment. More recently, his work has focused on the sustainability within the geopolitical and geohazards domain, particularly technology support. Dr. Adams has contributed to over 130 peer-reviewed publications, has participated in a selection of research projects and industry-funded projects, and has developed risk assessment tools that capture impacts across communities.
