Juan Marín Otero is a geographic information system (GIS) specialist with a master's degree in forestry engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain. With professional experience spanning over a decade, Mr. Otero has participated in large projects in the environmental, energy, defense, transportation, and telecommunications industries, among others. He also has experience teaching postgraduate college courses and has collaborated in developing material and teaching GIS introductory courses applied to environmental management. His specialty is developing distributed enterprise geospatial applications in Web environments, and he has led teams of developers and geospatial professionals utilizing the latest technologies both in Spain and in the US. More recently, Mr. Otero has been the GIS Lead and Architect for BroadbandMap.gov, which garnered over 1,000 average requests per second and peaked at 8,970 requests shortly after launch in February 2011.
